Using a representation of multichannel quantum defect theory in terms of a quantum Poincaré map for bound Rydberg molecules, we apply Jung's scattering map to derive a generalized quantum map, that includes the continuum. We show that this representation not only simplifies the understanding of the method, but moreover produces considerable numerical advantages. Finally we show under what circumstances the usual semi-classical approximations yield satisfactory results. In particular we see that singularities that cause problems in semi-classics are irrelevant to the quantum map.  相似文献

Using two different types of the laddering equations realized simultaneously by the associated Gegenbauer functions, we show that all quantum states corresponding to the motion of a free particle on AdS 2 and S 2 are splitted into infinite direct sums of infinite-and finite-dimensional Hilbert subspaces which represent Lie algebras u(1, 1) and u(2) with infinite- and finite-fold degeneracies, respectively. In addition, it is shown that the representation bases of Lie algebras with rank 1, i.e., gl(2, C), realize the representation of nonunitary parasupersymmetry algebra of arbitrary order. The realization of the representation of parasupersymmetry algebra by the Hilbert subspaces which describe the motion of a free particle on AdS 2 and S 2 with the dynamical symmetry groups U(1, 1) and U(2) are concluded as well.  相似文献

Starting from the assumption that general relativity might be an emergent phenomenon showing up at low energies from an underlying microscopic structure, we reanalyze the stability of a static closed universe filled with radiation. In this scenario, it is sensible to consider the effective general-relativistic configuration as in a thermal contact with an “environment” (the role of the environment can be played, for example, by a higher-dimensional bulk or by the trans-Planckian degrees of freedom). We calculate the free energy at a fixed temperature of this radiation-filled static configuration. Then, by looking at the free energy, we show that the static Einstein configuration is stable under the stated condition.  相似文献

This article critically reviews the proposal for addressing the cosmological constant problem within the framework of supersymmetric large extra dimensions (SLED), as recently proposed in hep-th/0304256. After a brief restatement of the cosmological constant problem, a short summary of the proposed mechanism is given. The emphasis is on the perspective of the low-energy effective theory in order to see how it addresses the problem of why low-energy particles like the electron do not contribute too large a vacuum energy. This is followed by a discussion of the main objections, which are grouped into the following five topics: (1) Weinberg’s No-Go Theorem. (2) Are hidden tunings of the theory required, and are these stable under renormalization? (3) Why should the mechanism apply only now and not rule out possible earlier epochs of inflationary dynamics? (4) How big are quantum effects, and which are the most dangerous? and (5) Even if successful, can the mechanism be consistent with cosmological or current observational constraints? It is argued that there are plausible reasons why the mechanism can thread the potential objections, but that a definitive proof that it does depends on addressing well-defined technical points. These points include identifying what fixes the size of the extra dimensions, checking how topological obstructions renormalize and performing specific calculations of quantum corrections. More detailed studies of these issues, which are well within reach of our present understanding of extra-dimensional theories, are currently underway. As such, the jury remains out concerning the proposal, although the prospects for acquittal still seem good. (An abridged version of this article appears in the proceedings of SUSY 2003.)  相似文献

We have demonstrated a passively Q-switched operation of Nd:GdVO4 laser in which a GaAs crystal is used as the saturable absorber for the first time as far as we know. A maximum average output power of 1.64 W was obtained at an incident pump power of 12 W, the corresponding optical conversion efficiency and peak power were 13.7% and 116.8 W, respectively. The maximum peak energy obtained in the experiment by 50% transmission couple was 19 μJ.  相似文献

This paper proposes the use of absorbing Markov chains to solve the capacity constrained transit network loading problem taking common lines into account. The approach handles congested transit networks, where some passengers will not be able to board because of the absence of sufficient space. The model also handles the common lines problem, where choice of route depends on frequency of arrivals. The mathematical formulation of the problem is presented together with a numerical example. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The synthesis of a specific isotopomer, C6D4H(ortho)-H(ortho)D4C6 of biphenyl is reported. The intramolecular dipolar coupling of the protons leads to a well-resolved single-crystal proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrum and allows one to study the dynamics of the phenyl rings in a unique way. At room temperature and above, the most conspicuous dynamical mode consists of 180° ring flips. The present data together with previous measurements of the total flip rate allow us to conclude that the rings flip almost exclusively independently of each other. Between the incommensurate (IC) phase transition of biphenyl at 38 K andT=250 K, the prominent namical mode consists of oscillatory twists ϕ(t) of the two rings. The data allow us to infer the mean square, (φ2), of these twists. (φ2) is found to grow linearly withT for 50<T<200 K. From the slope of (φ2) vs.T the frequency (the wave number[(v)\tilde]\tilde v) is derived. The result is[(v)\tilde] = 20\tilde v = 20 cm−1. ForT<38 K, the spectra give direct evidence of the IC phase transition and its nature (stripelike rather than quiltlike). The temperature dependence of the magnitude of the order parameter of the IC phase is obtained.  相似文献
